working hard or hardly working

Wowsy a month has gone by and it feels like a week. That’s probably a good indicator that I have no life outside work. It sounds more or less like what my wife has been telling me: “we don’t invest our lives as we do our jobs, this has to change”

So what am I doing about it? Not much. I’m in Singapore for a week. As I expected, I’ve been working not only the Singapore hours, but also the European hours. Tonight it looks like I’ll even be working the US Central timezone.

What does make all this worthwhile is that you get to meet interesting people and see amazing things.

On the way over from Brussels the person next to me was a marine biologist, educated at Harvard and professor at a reputable Danish university. She definitely had the gift of gab and so we chatted quite a bit. About the life of frequent travelers and exchanged tips on things to do on our time off at our respective destinations.

On my stopover in Copenhague I texted a Danish colleague who responded a few seconds later that she was about to board a plane in Senegal, halfway around the world.

As I landed for my stopover in Bangkok I saw a man tee off so close to the plane I could see he was using a wood three. The golf course, located between two runways, was actually separated into islands by the taxiways connecting the runways to the airport. Imagine that, sitting in your golf cart waiting for a the light to turn green so you can get to your next hole while a 747 passes by.

Singapore itself, while not a tourist’s town, still manages to amaze me with its architecture. Our office, Parkview Square looks like it would fit right into Gotham City’s urban plan.
